on saturday, i arrived home from youth conference at about 11 and was picked up at the dock to take our first trip in dad's new boat. g-man was a great sport, and only cried when ryne jumped in the water :) After boating, we stopped by the parade, and took advantage of the endless amounts of candy tossed at our feet.

so glad summer is here.

messes have become messier, bathtime has become comical (he tried to eat the bubbles tonight) and eating has turned into an never-ending buffet (this little man can eat!)

i can't believe it's been over two weeks since my last post. i've been enjoying my summer way too much!

here is another recipe from my mom's cookbook.

Strawbanana

1 ¼ cups orange juice

3 inches sliced banana

2 scoops nonfat frozen yogurt

2-3 cups strawberries

1 cup ice

Combine all in blender. Enjoy!

while on a girls trip to chicago last week, i picked up this little chicken for g's basket.

it reminded me of my own little chicken a few months back...

unfortunately, this was grahams reaction when he saw his new friend (see left)

it's a good thing he liked his peeps!

this has got to be the favorite for all the men in the household...

and the best part is? it's so easy to make, and tastes delicious.

French Velvet

½ cup butter
¾ cup sugar
2 squares unsweetened chocolate (melt in microwave)
2 eggs
1 cup whipping cream (whipped)
1-9" pie shell

Cream butter and sugar, stir in melted chocolate. Add 1 egg and beat for 5 minutes. Add 2nd egg and beat for 5 minutes. Fold whipping cream into chocolate mixture and place in pie shell. Chill for 2 hours. (Todd likes graham cracker crust).

ever started something, and found that you've done nothing in maybe...months??

that's how it's been with my mom's recipe book.

thankfully, i'm finally making some sort of progress, and want to share!

this is the beginning of some of my favorite recipes.

enjoy!

Homemade Bread Recipe
From start to finish in one hour

10 ½ cups white bread flour or Wheat Flour (do not use all-purpose flour)
½  cup sugar
1/3 cup honey
1 Tablespoon salt
3 rounded Tablespoons saf-instant yeast (Macey's Alison's Pantry, Bosch) it if all wheat
4 cups of hot tap water- as hot as we can get out of the tap- not boiling. Don't dump water in all at once.

Mix dry ingredients. *Add lecithin and water. Mix for 1 minute and check consistency. If dough is too dry, add more water. Dough should be very sticky. Mix for 5 minutes. (Do not add flour to the dough after it has finished mixing). Spray counter and pans with Pam. Shape loaves and cover with a dish towel. Let raise 25 minutes. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes. This recipe makes four loaves.

*Squeeze or pour approximately 3 Tablespoons of lecithin directly into the bowl. Do not measure.
For whole wheat bread, use the same recipe but add one cup of applesauce as part of the hot tap water and 1 additional Tablespoon lecithin. Mix for ten minutes.

was a busy day for g and i, considering we celebrated three birthdays.

we first celebrated katie's birthday at magleby's fresh (love their rolls)..

then we celebrated g-man's 9 month b-day with a trip to the doctor..

i wish i was one of those mom's who took a picture of my boy every month

{i tried, but i think i forgot after month two}

this is the best i've got...

can you tell yesterday's appointment was a little rough?

after the doctor drama, we had a birthday dinner with my cute dad.

wow, it's been awhile...

life here in the cardon home is great, but very busy

we spent our christmas in oklahoma with grandma + grandpa cardon.

little g loved all the attention..

but only if he was held by dad or mom.

smiling and splashing whenever we asked :)

i was also able to work on a few christmas projects this past month.

honey pecan chicken

you really should make this tonight.

my grandma ginny fixed this up for us for sunday dinner...

so so good.

1. Soak 4 whole chicken breasts for 1 1/2 hours in 4 cups buttermilk (in refrigerator).

2. Coat chicken in:

1 cup flour

2/3 tsp. salt

1/4 tsp. garlic powder

1/4 tsp. cayenne

Let stand 20 minutes or more

3. Fry in oil until brown. Drain.

4. Slowly simmer:

1/2 cup melted butter

1/4 cup honey

1/4 cup chopped pecans

Simmer for 15 minutes. Pour over chicken. Enjoy!!!

i was literally jumping up and down because i love nothing more than clean carpets.

seriously, what a fantastic weekend.

it started with visiting granny annie at work in g's costume.

we then went to a trunk-or-treat/soup cook-off where ryne won the "most original soup" in our ward.

saturday night, us and our "little chicken" stopped off for clam chowder at ginny + po's

marin + chelsey were nice enough to watch our little guy while we went to dinner and a movie with the barkers.

such a little trooper.

and there is one person who takes the cake when it comes to dressing up....

my dad.

last year he won the best overall costume at work. we were quite proud.

they really get into the halloween spirit where he works.

each "team" chooses a theme, and they all dress up according to their theme.

this year they decided to re-enact the whole tiger scandal.

ryne has been working nights since i've known him, and this past week he changed his schedule to just working during the day. at first i was excited, but then it hit me....

my secret is out. i can't cook. my family jokes that i actually married a man who does what i should know how to do (lucky me, right?)

so i need help! does anyone have any tried and true recipes that they would share?

but we were just experimenting.

since graham turned 4 months, we figured he could try something a little bit more exciting than milk. turns out he's not quite ready for it.

sorry for the poor quality!

and if you're still interested in silhouettes, i could always use more!!

a few tips...

1) the silhouettes turn out much more accurate if you are not smiling in your picture.

2) girls should try to show their neck. if not, you look like you have a trunk for a neck from your hair :) (and who wants that!)

one of the most treasured gifts i received for my wedding was my grandma ginny's recipes. she compiled a book especially for me with all of her favorite sides, entrees, and desserts. and take my word for it, this woman knows how to cook.

thanks to ginny's recipes, i was able to whip up some last minute loaves of banana bread for our yw activity on wednesday.

there is nothing better than a warm slice of ginny's buttered banana bread.

1/2 cup margarine

1 cup sugar

2 eggs

1 cup mashed bananas

1/4 cup milk

1 tsp. lemon juice

2 cups flour

1 1/2 t. baking powder

1/2 t. baking soda

1/4 t. salt

1/2 cup nuts (optional)

Cream margarine and sugar. Add eggs and beat. Add bananas, milk and lemon juice. Sift dry ingredients and add lemon juice. Sift dry ingredients and add to banana mixture. Add nuts. Bake in well-greased 8x4x3-inch loaf pan for 1 hour at 350 degrees. Enjoy!

i wanted to thank everyone who helped with ryne's birthday
it was a definite success and he was {almost} surprised...

notice the "ryme" on his tres leches....
the waiters could not figure out his name.

and speaking of birthdays...
we had a little party for ryne this week
i insisted on making the cake....

this past week has been a little crazy.....

5. worked
6. schooled
7. more work and school
8. drove down to st. george
{and melted in the 113 degree heat}

9. realized i forgot my recommend at home....

10. found a way into the temple

{and attended a beautiful sealing}
11. drove home

{and sang to the 80's}

12. taught my first yw lesson

13. found out bob + tammy are moving :(

he graduated from high school...
with his associates!
